How to read an additive without the number
A pack does not have to print the E number. It can print the additive name instead, and it usually puts the job first, so you see wording like emulsifier followed by the name in brackets. United States labels skip the E system altogether, which is why the same emulsifier appears as mono- and diglycerides there and as E471 in Europe.
Two things are worth knowing before you judge a list. A long additive list is not automatically a worse product, and a short one is not automatically better, because sugar, salt, and saturated fat carry no code at all.
